Katie Straw, t-lMHC
After graduating from UNI with a degree in Anthropology, I moved overseas to get married and work at City College Manchester in the UK. There, I gained experience providing support for students from all over the world. When my children were born, I spent more than 10 years as an at-home parent. Eventually, I returned to education and graduated from the University of Iowa with an M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
I would describe myself as a recovering Pinterest Mom, passionate about body acceptance, a hiker and a gardening dabbler.I work with individuals over the age of 16, especially college students and international populations. I have provided care to individuals experiencing depression and anxiety and I have particular interests in weight stigma, pain management and adult ADHD. I believe black lives matter, love is love, trans women are women/trans men are men and nobody is illegal. I am happy to incorporate your religious practices within the therapeutic relationship. You will also find that I believe laughter to be great medicine and may employ humor in our sessions.
